Silly Sally Went to Town...

walking backwards upside down!

I LOVE this book. Its silly and fun and rhymes, all my favorites aspects of a children's book. Each time I read this book, I think of my friend. She is silly and quirky and she TOTALLY would walk to town backwards while upside down...
silly mamas fashion showing hats in target... I swear I almost peed my pants over some of them (sometimes ya just gotta act 12) lol

Recently, my silly friend and I headed on a road trip, to a nearby city, with the minis in tow. On the way, my check engine light came on... After a frantic call to the hubs he declared it would be fine, I mean I was nearly 2 hours from home so what could I really do? So on we trudged... Engine light GLARING!

We had a great day... The kids had fun. We had fun. Just a typical great day nothing major to report... (I should have taken THAT as a sign) It was dark when it was time to roll out, so I begged had my girlie drive home because I hate driving in the dark!

After about 30 minutes into the trip, we realize were so going a WAY different way from the way we came... A bit worried, I scrolled through the GPS and saw it was just taking us west versus south then west so west we continued.

The minis were content (thank you  iPad, iPhone, and in car DVD's) and we were just yacking and laughing away... I happened to glance at good old GPS and just as I was gonna say our exit the GPS declares the dreaded "RECALCULATING"! Crap. We laughed and figured we will just hit the next exit, but good ole GPS lady informs us to "exit right in 21.5 miles" 21 miles? SERIOUSLY? That so can't be right, Right? Clearly it was because there wasn't a single exit...

We shrug off the 21 mile detour and continue on with our yacking and laughing... "Recalculating!" Whoa... Hold up. Wait a minute. Seriously, we went 21 miles already and missed the exit AGAIN?  Insert 4 letter expletive of your choice here, because Im sure we said them all between the laughs...

Mid snort, I hear "continue 18 miles and exit right". OMG! What the heck kind of highway are we on? What highway only has exits every 20 miles. At this point we look at the minis content in the car and as we look at each other the worry is mirrored on each other's faces. How much longer can THIS go on? Our 2 hour trip has just gone to a 3+ hour trip... Fingers crossed, we continue on our "three hour tour"...

A few miles into our now 38 mile detour we start seeing some weird signs. Please remove sunglasses. Huh? Why would we need to remove sunglasses? On we go and then we find out... We travel through not just one, but TWO HUGE tunnels through TWO HUGE mountains! Where the hell are we??

Beeeep. My truck starts beeping. We both look at the dash. Along with the GLARING check engine light we now have 48 miles til empty and we are in the middle of BFE... Crap... The kids are still  quiet, so I began to pray they would fall asleep. I mean it is after 9 at this point and they HAVE to be tired. I mean they ran all day right? Oh how wrong I was...

Finally, after refusing to look, talk, or distract each other for the final 5 miles for fear of missing yet another exit, we reach our exit. I had to pay god knows how much of a toll (thank you easy pass) and away we went.

I TOTALLY thought we were going to be on another highway... hahahaha! Silly me, nope we were on a LONG DARK CURVY country road (with about a 30 mph speed limit) The good ole GPS just kept tacking the minutes on...

Desperate for gas, worried my car was gonna break down, and paranoid the kids were going to lose it  any given second, we scanned to dark country terrain for a gas station... We both about died as we passed the hot spot in the country on a Saturday night: The Milky Way... If we were sans kids we SO would have had to make a pit stop... Seriously? The Milky Way? hahaha

Eventually, we arrived at the only gas station seen the WHOLE way. It was kinda shady but it gave me some much needed gas so that I could get back to some civilization... Man, I thought I LIVE in the country, THAT was some country! yikes!!

Four and a half hours later we pulled into my driveway. Even though it should have been a quick two hour drive but turned into Gilligan's three hour tour, the kids NEVER slept, hardly complained, and us mamas kept our cool... So even with the minor snafu, I would say the trip was a great on!
