Literally...
Anthony's first day of Kindergarten has come and gone and I was a mess. Tears fell, I missed my boy, and I worried all day long... Honestly, I did much better then I expected, and the days leading up were far worse then the actual day.
He did awesome! He was SO excited and could not wait to get there... He confidently headed off into the great big world (without his mama) with confidence and pizazz just as I knew he would. His enthusiasm for life is truly amazing...
I watched the clock all day and raced to his school, 20 minutes early, to get my baby. He bounded down the hall with a GINORMOUS smile and as soon as he spied me his eyes lit up and he grabbed me into the tightest hug ever! It was perfect and I couldn't have asked for a better day for him and I. I mean if he was a wreck, I would have been even WORSE!!
As we walked to the car I was filled in on his tales and adventures of his "big day" and he informed me that "Kindergarten was AWESOME!" LOVE it!!
As he climbed into the car he emptied his pockets and handed me, from smallest to largest, three rocks that he "mined" for me during recess. I marveled at the most beautiful rocks I have ever seen and he was so proud of himself. He said he missed me so he decided to "mine some rocks for mommy because there may be diamonds and jewels inside". They were perfect!
Today was no different... He was still UBER excited (his poor teachers, I am sure the boy is straight up WILD!!) to beginning day 2 of the "awesomest kindergarten EVER!!".
Today as he was dismissed, his teacher called me over and handed me 2 rocks she discovered Anthony had in his pockets. He explained that they were for me and that he gave me 3 yesterday... His teacher then asked him what his mommy thought of those rocks and he proudly declared, "She thought they were beautiful!" How right he was... So, I took home my new rocks, wrote the dates on them, added them to a jar with the rocks from yesterday, and smiled... I think those rocks have been the most meaningful and appreciated gift I have ever received and I will cherish them forever... I can't help but wonder if I will be fortunate enough to receive another tomorrow...
So yes, Kindergarten ROCKS, literally, and if it keeps up there will be one happy mommy, one rock star of a boy, and a playground riddled with holes from the special rocks a boy has given his mama. Here's to a GREAT school year!

Your post brought me back 5 years to MY baby boy's first day of kindergarten. I missed him like crazy and was dying to know how his day went too.
The rocks he's giving you daily...absolutely PRICELESS!
